Community Center Grand Opening
November 6,  2005

Ribbon Cutting

Good afternoon.... and on behalf of the Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce... welcome to this wonderful celebration. As a member of the Chamber, the Franklin community center and its representatives join over 400 Pittsburg area members in sharing the mission of the Chamber of Commerce. Thank you for that participation and the loyalty we all share in creating a better Southeast Kansas.

Unlike that Sunday in May, 2003, today is a peaceful and beautiful day. Sadness, destruction and the loss of life were the result of the disaster that swept through this community. However, only minutes afterwards, people in this community came together to help each other. The sense of working together for a common vision is a foundation of small communities. The people of Franklin have exhibited the characteristics of excellence and are to be commended for their focus.

People of this community made a decision to rebuild and create an even better place to live. In so doing, one of the first steps was to provide a place for the community to enjoy. I ask that you just look at this beautiful place today. Congratulations on a job well done!

On behalf of the Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce, thank you for your attendance today. And, to the fine people who have demonstrated the leadership and resolve to build this community center... congratulations and best wishes.

May God bless this community center and the people of Franklin.
