Memories of Richard Family
< style="font-style: italic;">Joseph & Adelia (LeDoux) Richir and son Joseph Jr (about 2 years old) came to the United States from Belgium around 1880.  They migrated to Rich Hill, Missouri , and owned a farm while they were there. Joseph also worked in the coal mines.

In 1906, Joseph Sr, Adelia, and son, Jules, bought 160 acres in Franklin .  Joseph purchased a subsection at the northeast corner of the 7 mile corner (Ginardi's corner).   It is known today on the legal descriptions as Richard’s and Richard subdivision. Joseph kept 32 acres of the 160 acres and sold the remainder in parcels.   They had a four room house built on the farm.  The other son, Joseph, was married, and they did not live there.   The people had difficulty in pronouncing the name "Richir" so Joseph added a "d" and it became Richard.    Adelia died in 1914 and Joseph died in 1923 on the homestead. They are both buried in Mt. Olive Cemetery .

Joseph and Adelia’s  son and his wife, Jules and Blanche Pommier Richard, inherited the 32 acres and raised their children, Della, Eva, and Jules Jr., on the homestead. Pete Battitori (owner of Battitori’s Garage) called Jules, Sr., the mayor of Franklin because Pete said Jules had been there longer than anyone else. Later Linda Montee Russell (great granddaughter of Joseph and Adelia) was raised on some of the land purchased by her great grandfather in Franklin.   Memories of Eva Richard Gardner submitted by Linda Montee Russell

When the strike was called in December 1921 and the Amazons were active Eva was a little over 10 months old and Blanche wrapped Eva up on blankets and took her along on the march.  One of the state militia men commented that she was certainly a little one to be “marching”.  Memories of Eva Richard submitted by Linda Montee Russell
