Help needed:   Can you spare a few hours to help with any of the Franklin projects?  We are setting up a mowing schedule for the area at the south end of Franklin (Highway 69 and Highway 47) where the “Welcome” sign will be placed. If you would be willing to help out with this mowing please let us know when you would be able to help (every week, once a month, twice a month, etc.) as we are setting up a mowing schedule.  Please help make the entrance to town an attractive location.  There are always other projects that need to be tended to.  If you have any time to spare please give one of the directors a call.

PARK:   The walking path will be laid as soon as weather permits.  Be sure to send  your forms in for your paver at the park so it can be  included in the first order.   There is no deadline and this will be an ongoing project however we’ll be sending in the first order soon so please be sure to get your forms in to be included in the first laying of the pavers.

WELCOME SIGN:   The sign will be placed as soon as the weather permits.

HERITAGE COMMITTEE:  Thanks to all working on finding information on the sidewalk.    If we can get it listed on the historic register there is a possibility of funding to restore the entire sidewalk.    Please try to search your memory for facts about the sidewalk and when it appeared in the Guinness Book of World Records.   The State needs more information before considering the application to place it on the Historic Register.    Contact Phyllis at 347-8387 if you have any information..

COMMUNITY HALL:  Work should begin again soon.   Weather and minor setbacks have delayed the project only temporarily.

ADVISORY COMMITTEE:  Community  picnic May 7, 2005, 4 pm.  Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy visiting with neighbors and friends.   Food will be served. For your enjoyment there will be door prizes, game and music (polka and gospel).  We will be joining the National Trust for Historic Preservation in celebrating National Historical Preservation Month.   The theme is  "Restore America: Communities at a Crossroads.”    Historic displays and games will be presented along with several awards.

Don’t forget about the endowment fund which has been established which will allow an opportunity to leave a lasting tribute to the community.   Please keep FCCI in mind when leaving a memorial in lieu of flowers for a deceased loved one.  Tell your friends and relatives who no longer live in Franklin about the endowment fund.  This money will remain in a managed fund and the interest will be used to maintain the properties owned by FCCI (Hall, Park, Welcome Sign). Keep the spirit of Franklin alive for years to come.

WATER BOARD:  Jim Rhuems was elected by acclamation to fill the position of Treasurer for a 3 year term. Materials located at Ashbacher Construction are for water infrastructure improvements.  Work began this week. Completion is expected in 180 days.
