February , 2005
PARK: The application for rezoning has been
approved by the Crawford County Zoning Commission. The hearing
was held Thursday, February 17, 2005. Work will progress as soon
as the weather allows the heavy equipment on the site.
Please see the attached brochure regarding the memorial paver
project. It’s a chance for everyone to have their family
remembered for generations to come. The cost has been kept
low to allow everyone an opportunity to participate.
WELCOME SIGN: Property at 47 & 69: Deed has been
filed and work will begin to place the “Welcome to
Franklin” sign as soon as the weather allows the equipment on the
site.
POST OFFICE: The postal service has stated at this time the
community is receiving a high level of postal service. They
have determined that at this time service to Franklin customers will
remain unchanged. We will keep up the fight to have the
post office re-established in Franklin.
HERITAGE COMMITTEE: The history project has begun. Several
written histories are being taken and oral histories are
beginning. Also several historical items have been donated to the
community.
We have been notified that the application to list the sidewalk on the
State and National Historic Register requires more information.
The state needs more facts about it. If anyone has any
information, stories, copies of the Guinness Book in which it appeared
or the newspaper articles please contact Phyllis at 347-8387.
COMMUNITY HALL: Groundbreaking will be held February 26 at 10
am. Everyone is welcome to attend. Please help
make this a special day. The rebuilding of the
community center is a major step toward the community’s
recovery.
ADVISORY COMMITTEE: This committee is in the planning
stages for a Centennial Celebration in 2007. Be
thinking ahead of planning your family reunions around the date of this
celebration. Several families have already expressed an interest
in doing this.
A community picnic will be held May 7, 2005. Watch your
newsletter for more information.
An endowment fund has been established which will allow an opportunity
to leave a lasting tribute to the community. Please keep
FCCI in mind when leaving a memorial in lieu of flowers for a deceased
loved one. The attached brochure
gives the details. This money will remain in a managed fund
and the interest will be used to maintain the properties owned by FCCI
(Hall, Park, Welcome Sign).
WATER BOARD: The RWD #7 would like to remind all property owners
that in the event of a change in ownership that their Benefit Unit
Certificates need to be transferred from one owner to the next. This
transfer is done by the Water District Board... please contact Veda
Maxwell (347-4747) for additional information
SEWER: The sewer project is critical to development of the
community. Michael Kramer , Kramer Engineering and Dale Yaeger, USDA
Rural Development will be attending the next council meeting (March 6,
2005) to answer questions on the issue.
