August 12, 2005 7 pm. Franklin
Community Council, Inc. Board Meeting, Bill & Dianna Morrison’s
garage, 301 S. Vine (behind old Catholic Church). All
welcome to attend. Anyone who would like to help in any of the
projects are invited. There are still many projects to
complete and all are welcome to become a part of the rebuilding and
future of Franklin. Please try to spare a little time each
month to help. If you are unable to attend the meetings contact a
board member to let us know how you would like to help. We’ll
need lots of ideas and help for the centennial too.
Wal-Mart donated $500 to the community of
Franklin.
STORM SIREN: Final
stages of paperwork is being compiled so storm siren can be
ordered.
COMMUNITY HALL:
What a wonderful sight to see the red iron and roof going up on the
building. Work should move along quickly now. It’s
not too early to start thinking of events that you may want to hold in
the new hall. Projected completion date is mid
November.
ADVISORY COMMITTEE:
Several fund raising projects have been discussed. If you’d like
to help out on any projects please contact any of the board members.
Don’t forget about the endowment fund which has been established which
will allow an opportunity to leave a lasting tribute to the community.
Please keep FCCI in mind when leaving a memorial in lieu of flowers for
a deceased loved one. Tell your friends and relatives who no longer
live in Franklin about the endowment fund. This money will remain in a
managed fund and the interest will be used to maintain the properties
owned by FCCI (Hall, Park, Welcome Sign). Keep the spirit of Franklin
alive for years to come.
CENTENNIAL: The
centennial is scheduled for the weekend of June 23-24, 2007. Make
plans now to plan your family reunion at the same time. Any local
residents are welcome to submit a design for a logo for the
centennial. We will need people to help with
making plans and organizing. Ideas are welcome and we would love
to see new people on the committee.
PLANNING AND LAND USE COMMITTEE:
Hope everyone has noticed the new welcome sign at the corner of 69 and
47. Thanks to John Nepote for donating bricks, Joplin Building
Supply for donating blocks and John Nepote and Ray Hamblin for building
the sign. Ron Wilbert is in the process of making the lettering
for the sign.
PARK: SPECIAL APPEAL !!!!!!
The Park Committee would be ever so grateful if some of the younger men
and women with families could see your way to volunteering some time
towards building the Franklin Community Park. Thus far the majority of
volunteers working on this project are over 62 years of age. This is
not to be only a park for senior citizens but for our young families
here in Franklin as well. Wouldn't it be a neat example when you bring
your children to the park to be able to say, Mommy and/or Daddy helped
build this park for you? Please call to see what you can do to help.
The walking path will be laid as soon as weather permits. The
first order for the pavers was sent June 15. Additional pavers
can be ordered at any time. This will be an on-going
project.
The foundation for the sign has been poured. Poles were set for
the shelter and light poles were set.
HERITAGE COMMITTEE: Thanks to
all working on finding information on the sidewalk. We still need
to find the dates that the article appeared in the newspaper regarding
the Guinness Book of World Records. We have also now heard that
it may have been Ripleys Believe it Or Not rather than Guinness.
We have also heard an article appeared in Life Magazine. If
anyone has any of this information please contact Phyllis at 347-8387
or 249-9333. Finding this information is very important to
obtaining the listing on the historic register which will in turn make
funding available to the community.
Some very interesting stories are coming in on the oral history
project. Everyone should be interested in reading it.
If anyone would like to be part of this project and would be willing to
be interviewed please contact Phyllis at 347-8387
Water District: RWD #7 is asking all property owners who are
considering selling their lots, to please remember their Benefit Unit
Certificate must be transferred by the Water Board. If you lost your
Certificate in the tornado and need a duplicate one issued, please call
Veda Maxwell at 347-4747 so she can make one out for you. This way it
is much easier to get all required signatures at the "closing" of the
sale and returned to her for processing.
