Community
Work
Day:
Mark your calendars for April 21.
We’ll be sprucing up the town in preparation for the centennial
and
completing some projects at the park.
Please come and help. If you know
of any organizations who would be willing to help us on that day please
let Ray
know.
BARGAIN BAZAAR
& CHILI
FEED: Mark
your calendars for March 3. We will
be holding the annual bargain bazaar
(rummage sale) on that date. Last
year’s event held in June at the park was a huge success thanks to the
co-operation
of all the residents and the hard-working group of volunteers. Since the centennial celebration will be held
in June we will be holding the Bargain Bazaar earlier this year at the
community center. In conjunction with
the bazaar we will hold a chili feed as a fund raiser.
We will begin accepting donations of items
after the first of the year. We will
be
unable to accept large furniture and large appliances.
Small furniture and appliances will be
accepted. Donate
those unwanted Christmas gifts, antiques,
small kitchen items, toys, sports equipment, kitchenware, etc. All proceeds will benefit the community of Franklin. How you can
help: Stop by for dinner,
shop at the bargain bazaar, donate items for the sale, volunteer to
help with
set up, help the day of the sale, help with cleanup or work in the
kitchen. Call Marion at 347-8444 or Phyllis at 249-9333.
CHRISTMAS PARTY: The
7th
Annual Franklin Community Christmas Party was a huge success. Local
residents
enjoyed a special afternoon. Thanks to
Crawford County RWD #7, Franklin Community Council, Inc., and Cukjati
Farms who
continue to sponsor this event. Thanks
to them the community enjoys the true spirit of Christmas.
The day was made special by a visitor from
the North Pole as Santa stopped by with gifts for the children. Pictures of the event will be on the website
soon.

“EXCITING
NEWS FOR FRANKLIN” Joan
Hornig, well known
New York jewelry
designer, is lending a helping hand to Franklin, Kansas. Joan
has designed a piece of jewelry specifically for Franklin. The design is a
silver
leaf (ginkgo) motif and is on a leather cord.
The sterling silver necklace is
available locally only at Occasions, 508 N. Broadway, Pittsburg at a special price of $75.
There are only 18 necklaces available. They
will not be reproduced and were made
specifically for Franklin for this event.
One necklace will also be placed at auction during the
centennial
celebration. In addition to the
necklaces Joan has also donated a magnificent Sterling Silver Double
Cuff. The bracelet is one of a kind and
can only be
purchased at the celebrity auction to be held during the Centennial
Celebration. The value of the bracelet
is estimated at over $500. The items
have been donated by Joan. Occasions is
donating 100% of the proceeds to benefit Franklin Community Council,
Inc. All
proceeds are used for the rebuilding and recovery of the community. This will be a great
opportunity for
area residents to obtain a piece of jewelry by a well known designer. Her
jewelry is normally sold on 5th Avenue in New York City. These
pieces will make beautiful gifts and
will always hold a special meaning to the gift giver and the recipient. These are a very limited production and are
only available through Occasions.
Remember that there are 18 pieces, they will not be duplicated,
they
were made specifically for Franklin, they come
with a certificate of authenticity and are available only at Occasions. Go to the Franklin website for
photos and more information.

FAMILY
INFO: Don’t
forget to send in your family
information (date of settling in Franklin, memories, etc)
FINANCE: (Paul Christman)
Please help us with
paying
off the debt from the community center construction in any way you can.
Donations can be sent directly to: FCCI, P.O. Box 43, Franklin, Ks. 66735.
All donations are tax deductible.
Endowment Fund: This
will ensure that Franklin has the proper funding to continue its
activities,
etc. for years to come. Anyone
can
make a donation to the endowment fund.
With an initial donation of $100 a fund is set up in your name
or your
family’s name and the name is placed on a plaque in the community
center. The fund can be added to at
any time (and in
any amount) and is an especially nice
way to remember a family on special occasions such as date of birth,
wedding
anniversary, date of death, etc.
Anyone can donate any
amount at any time in
memory of these names or you can establish a fund in your own family
name. These funds will ensure that
future programs
in Franklin will continue.
This money is managed by the Greater Kansas City Area Foundation
of
which we are a sub-fund. The funds are
placed in a secure account with the intention of using the interest for
future
expenses and programs.
VOLUNTEERS: New
volunteers are always welcome. Thanks to those who have volunteered and
are
helping with a variety of events and activities. Your
help is greatly appreciated. Contact
any board member if you’d like to
