November 10  Salute to Veterans

We would like to extend our sympathies to the families of the following people who were residents or former residents of Franklin and passed away this past month.   We value the importance of all our residents (past and present).   In memory of: Ann (Sarley) Miller.

 FUNERAL DINNERS  (Marion Kobak 620-347-8444)

Please remember that the community center is available for funeral dinners at no charge to the family.  FCCI will provide meals for funeral dinners for Franklin residents AND former Franklin residents.  Families are responsible for paying for meat for the dinner but side dishes and beverages will be prepared and served by residents of the community.

  LIFELONG FRIENDS

September 20

(Norine Laird  347-4453)

Come and rekindle old friendships or make new ones that will last a lifetime.  Spend an hour or the entire afternoon playing cards, dominoes, games, enjoying the program or just visiting. September’s program will be titled “Remember Me” (care of Alzheimer’s Patients at Home and in the Nursing Home).  Presented by Carol Kerr, Golden Living Care Center.  Admission is free and refreshments are served.    Program begins at 1 pm.

COMMUNITY PICNIC

Come out and enjoy the afternoon.   Picnic lunch, kids games, prizes, bocce, bingo, awards ceremony.  Bring your lawn chairs and plan to spend the afternoon visiting with old friends and making new friends.   Franklin & Centennial Collectible Items will be available at sale prices.   Pick up some great Christmas gifts and keepsake items for the family.

WEBSITE

New Photos have been added from the centennial and Amazon Army.  If you have any photos from the centennial to share please e-mail them or call (620-249-9333) and we can make arrangements to scan them.   Also please let me know if you can identify anyone in any of the photos that are on-line.

Check out History page as this is full of photos and info.   The “Early Family” section is growing. Please add your family photos and information.

PARK  (Ray Hamblin 620-347-4228)

Reservations:  While there is no charge for using the park,  reservations for the shelter are necessary in order to ensure your family has full access to the shelter. Due to the rains and other problems the bathrooms are not usuable. However we have placed a porta-potty at the park for the convenience of park users.   Please do not abuse this privilege.  Volunteers work very hard to maintain the park and the entire area.   We do not have extra funds to pay for vandalism and other problems that are caused by only a few people.  Please keep your eyes and ears open for vandalism or mischief at the park and report it to one of the board members or the Sheriff’s department.   For reservations call Phyllis at 620-249-9333.

<>PAVERS:  We will be placing another order soon.  Be sure to send in your information if you would like a lasting tribute to your family, class, business, etc.    The cost of the large paver is now $125.  The price was increased by the manufacturer.     Smaller pavers are still available for $75 and $50.

CONTRIBUTORS

<>Thanks to Esther Marlier for her donation toward future historic projects.   We are dedicated to preserving the history of the community and appreciate support toward these projects.  Thanks to Gerald Crucani for a donation toward our general fund.

While the community center debt has been retired there are still many ongoing day to day expenses and we want to continue the programs that benefit everyone.   Insurance, maintenance, utilities, lawn care, park maintenance, historical preservation, kitchen supplies, hall supplies, etc. are just a few of the ongoing expenses that we continue to incur.  In many instances volunteers continue to use their own equipment, gas, office supplies, etc. to keep the community activities going.  We would like to reach a point where the community is self sufficient and we only need to depend on volunteers for labor.

COMMUNITY CENTER

(Dianna Morrison 620-347-8807 or 620-249-2948)

Call for rental information.   We constantly receive compliments on the beauty of the facility as well as it being “user friendly”.

“CENTENNIAL”

Many have asked if we will be doing it again next year.  Of course “centennial” implies every 100 years but due to the interest we are working on an idea to have some sort of yearly “reunion”.   It will likely be a catered dinner (reservations in advance required) and just the day spent visiting with old friends.  The event will be at the community center.  Watch future editions of the newsletter as well as notices in the newspaper for a date.   It will be a great chance for everyone to know that on a certain date each year we will be gathering to renew old friendships.

“HUGE SALE on Centennial Items”

(Call Phyllis 620-347-8387 or 620-249-9333 to pick up any of these items prior to the picnic or call if you would like to have them sent to you.  You can then send a check to FCCI, P. O.
