SPRING ARRIVES
EARLY IN FRANKLIN, KANSAS
Isn’t
it wonderful to see
the green leaves on the tree? If you
haven’t noticed the tree at the front of the community center please
take note
the next time you drive by. Through a
very generous donation by a Franklin
resident who has been a
huge supporter of Franklin Community Council, Inc. the balance on the
community
center has been paid off. Through this generosity we are now able to
move
forward with other projects that will benefit the community. We are truly appreciative of this wonderful
gift to the community. Being a truly
Great American the donor asked that no recognition be given. The gift was truly a “gift from the
heart”. |
FUNERAL DINNERS
(Marion Kobak 620-347-8444)
<>A meeting was
held March 12 at 7 pm at the Community Center.
If you were unable to attend but are willing to help (serve at
dinners,
hostess, prepare food, etc.) please contact Marion. Please remember that the
community center
is available for funeral dinners at no charge to the family. FCCI will once again begin providing meals
for funeral dinners for Franklin residents AND former Franklin residents. Families are responsible for paying for meat
for the dinner but side dishes and beverages will be prepared and
served by
residents of the community. >
ENDOWMENT
A new endowment
fund has been
set up for John & Mary Folker.

COMMUNITY WORK DAY *****>
Come and Join the Fun
April 14, 2007
(Ray Hamblin 620-347-4228)
<>We will meet at
the park at 8 am
to complete a list of projects. Lunch
will be served. Please come and help in any way that you can. Whether you have an hour or all day please
take part in the upkeep of your community.
There are many projects that need to be completed.
All volunteers are welcome. >
PARK: We
received a
Pritchett Grant which will help us move forward to the completion of
the
park. We are very grateful to M & I
Bank and the Trustees of the Pritchett Grant for placing their trust in
our
organization. Thanks to them the
children in Franklin have a safe place to play and
adults have a place to hold
family parties and use the walking path.
PARENTS: The
park is for the
use of the entire community. We would
appreciate it if everyone would be aware that we are providing this
facility
for everyone to use. When someone vandalizes anything at the park they
are
destroying “your” park. Everyone
please be aware of this and if you
see any activity at the park that makes you suspicious please call Ray
at 347-4228. Every
time we have to
repair or replace an item that reduces the amount of funds that we have
to add
new play equipment to the park.

<>CHILI FEED &
BARGAIN BAZAAR>
<> (Marion Kobak 620-347-8444)>
<>If you weren’t
there you missed out on the fun. The
March event was a huge success. There
is no way to say thank everyone individually but a huge THANK YOU goes
to all
those who helped, donated items, donated their time to help with the
huge task
of sorting, marking, selling, preparing food, clean up, carry out of
items,
picking up items prior to the sale, etc.
It was a great day with lots of community participation. Although the work was long and difficult
everyone had a great time. There was
much laughter and goodwill.
><>Everyone had such
a great time and the event was such a success it will be held again on
May 5 to
coincide with the citywide Franklin/Arma sale.
Once again we are accepting donated items to be sold. If you have items to donate call Marion 347-8444 or Gay 347-4305 as soon as possible. Arrangements will be made for items to
be
dropped off. If you are unable to bring
your items we can make arrangements to have them picked up. If
you are able to work at the sale please fill out the form below. We are accepting new and used items. This is an easy way to contribute to the
community. Sale starts at 7 am. Join
us for a day of fun! Keep
the community spirit alive!!>

<>“CENTENNIAL”>
<>
June 23-24, 2007
(Phyllis
Bitner, 620-347-8387)>
Good News!! We
received a very generous grant from the Crawford County Convention and
Visitors
Bureau to use toward the centennial celebration.
This will help with advertising and
promoting the event. Craig Hull,
director of the CVB has been very generous with his time in promotion
all Franklin events.
Please stop by the CVB office which is located at 4th
&
Pine in Pittsburg and say thanks. While you’re
there pick
up a few brochures of some great places to visit in Crawford County.
We
keep hearing from people who will be coming from around the country.
Just
this week people from Michigan, California and Texas have made plans to attend.
It’s going to
be a grand event.
FAMILY INFO: Don’t forget to
send your family information in with your water bill. If you have lost
your
form just write the information on a piece of paper.
Please take care of this as soon as possible
as we will be making the historic signs soon and need this information. If you want your name & memories to
appear please send this info with your water bill this month. Also send in photos and captions for DVD.
Must have by end of April. This is
the last time this information will
be in the newsletter. Be creative. Just
a couple lines about something you remember special about Franklin (an
event, a
business, your school, etc.) If you have any information, photos or
memorabilia relating to the Amazon Army march please let us know as we
will
have a display of those items in the glass case at the hall.

<>SPONSORSHIP:
New
sponsors this month are: The Morning Sun
and Millers Professional Imaging. We are very grateful for their
support. Current sponsors are UNB (University National Bank), A
& O Signs, Pittcraft,
Scotty’s Classic Car Museum, Jody Phillips
Dance Studio, Fox Insurance Agency (Rob
Lessen). Please support these
sponsors
as they are instrumental in making the centennial celebration possible.

<>COMMUNITY CENTER

Call
for rental
information. The hall continues to
be
rented on a regular basis.
<>CRAWFORD COUNTY RWD #7>
We would like to
acknowledge the multiple complaints received about the low water
pressure. We have been in constant contact
with our
water supplier regarding this situation.
They assure us they are working on this dilemma and are hopeful
that a
solution will be forth coming.
Remember... the water condition you have at your home is the
same that
we have in our homes.
<>The Annual
Election Meeting will be at 7:00 p.m.
at the Franklin Community Hall on Thursday,
April 12th. It would be nice to see a
huge turnout for this meeting and all future meetings.
By attending you would learn "first
hand" how we are performing and not relying on the "grapevine"
to inform you of our actions. We need 2
people with fresh and new ideas willing to volunteer 1 to 2 hours a
month to
fill the 2 open positions on the Board.
The only requirement>
to sit on the
Water Board is to be a property owner within Rural Water District #7. Please make an effort to attend and consider
accepting a seat on the Board. Any of our Board members would be happy
to
answer questions you might have... Thank you !
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Check the areas in which you are able to volunteer your time or
talent and return
with your water bill or send to FCCI.
