$100 for 100 years

Help us remember the centennial in a special way.

Donate $100 to the endowment fund in your family name.   Purchase a $100 paver to be placed in the park.  Donate $100 for current maintenance, repairs & upkeep.   Donate $100 for future projects.   (see form below)

We would like to extend our sympathies to the families of the following people who were residents or former residents of
Franklin and passed away this past month.   We value the importance of all our residents (past and present).   In memory of: Katherine (Strukel) Girard,  Donald E. Cukjati, Margaret Buncia Morris, Doris Walker, Elmer 'Bud' C. Fields and Margaret L. Carpenter.

WHERE, OH WHERE, IS MY MASTER NOW?

After the May 4th tornado in Franklin , many could not return home.  Three of these were pets Sassy, her pup Misty, and Mary (new names.)  These displaced pets were never claimed.  Miss Pat Marquardt made a home in her heart and her life for these pets.  Pat passed away this past week again leaving the trio homeless.  An attempt again is being made to contact the original owners. Sassy is a benji type dog,  pup is white and appears to be part lab, and Mary is a black terrier/cocker mix.  These dogs have had great care.  All are spayed, have had shots, groomed etc. Now they are hoping that their master will have a new place and will be able to take them back home.  If this isn’t a possibility, they are hoping for a new home like Pat gave them. If these might be one of your pets or if you would like to adopt Sassy, Misty, or Mary, please call 231-2233. Pictures of these pets can be seen on the Franklin Web page.   Mary Kay Caldwell,  SEK Humane Society

FUNERAL DINNERS  (Marion Kobak 620-347-8444)

Please remember that the community center is available for funeral dinners at no charge to the family.  FCCI will provide meals for funeral dinners for Franklin residents AND former Franklin residents.  Families are responsible for paying for meat for the dinner but side dishes and beverages will be prepared and served by residents of the community.

ACTIVITIES FOR THE MONTH:  We have had a successful month with the Bargain Bazaar, Lifelong Friends, Fund Raisers, Work Days and other activities. Thanks to the Bogatay family for allowing us to sell food at their auction. This was a nice fund raiser for the community. Thanks to all those who helped make all of our events a success.   A special thanks to all those who gave of their time for work days and other projects.

  <>CONTRIBUTORS

A new endowment fund has been set up for Frank H. Ales.    Thanks to donations in memory of Fred H. Goodhart the new community center now has high chairs and seating designed to hold baby carriers.    Thanks to donations in memory of John Seglie and John Houck we are able to begin construction on the glass case which will house our Veterans’ mementos.  Remember once an endowment fund is established donations of any amount can be made in memory of a special date (birthday, anniversary, etc.)

Thanks to Ronnie Talbott in memory of Leichen & Sullivan families and other miscellaneous donations.  We are truly grateful for each and every donation and are blessed to have such wonderful residents and “friends”.  All donation (large and small) help keep Franklin a strong community.    All donations go directly toward projects that benefit Franklin and the surrounding area.  No directors receive any payment for work they do.

While the community center debt has been retired there are still many ongoing day to day expenses and we want to continue the programs that benefit everyone.   Insurance, maintenance, utilities, lawn care, park maintenance, historical preservation, kitchen supplies, hall supplies, etc. are just a few of the ongoing expenses that we continue to incur.  In many instances volunteers continue to use their own equipment, gas, office supplies, etc. to keep the community activities going.  We would like to reach a point where the community is self sufficient and we only need to depend on volunteers for labor.

HISTORIC SIDEWALK

Thanks to those who are cleaning their “Historic Sidewalk”.  Hopefully we can one day have the entire 2 miles stretch cleaned so all will have a safe place to walk.    As we continue to hold work days we plan to continue clearing the sidewalk as we know that not everyone is able to do this difficult task.   If you are cleaning your sidewalk please consider helping your neighbor who may not be able to do this job.

COMMUNITY CLEAN UP

We hope everyone will join in the spirit of the festival and clean up their yards and area so we can all be proud of our community.  We will be hosting many out of town visitors.  Much media coverage is also expected.
