ANNEXATION:   Make plans to attend the next Board of Directors meeting December 2 at 4 pm at the Franklin Community Center.  The annexation issue will be on the agenda.    We welcome input from everyone.    Please mark your calendars for this very important meeting.  FCCI has not been involved in the plans for annexation by the Arma City Council.  Be sure to wear your “Franklin” hats, t-shirts, lapel pins, etc. in support of our community. (available at Community Center)

We would like to extend our sympathies to the families of the following people who were residents or former residents of Franklin and passed away this past month.   We value the importance of all our residents (past and present).   In memory of Ruth Jackson and Annie Humes

WE SALUTE OUR VETERANS

What a wonderful tribute to our veterans.  We were told the event was the best ever.  We continue to update our list of veterans.  If you do not contact us we have no way of knowing if your loved one was a veteran. Please let us know (620-249-9333). We would also love to have photos of all Franklin veterans to place on our veterans display.

THANK YOU to the following who made the event a success:  Congresswoman Nancy Boyda,  Representative Bob Grant, State Senator Jim Barone,  Anne Emerson,  Community Development Director  for Senator Sam Brownback,  Dr. Ron Seglie. Lori Pommier and her 4th & 5th grade students, Renee Popejoy and her high school KAY (Kansas Association of Youth) students, Larry Ent of Alpha Phi Sigma and all the wonderful local volunteers who worked tirelessly to plan and organize the event.   We were honored to have Tony Zemlock and Warren Jones to share the day with us.  Tony & Warren are both former POWs.  ChesterClark” Fikes, a former POW, intended to join us but was hospitalized and unable to attend.  We send our best wishes to him.    We would also like to thank Frank Bozich for sharing the day with us.  We were proud to have the opportunity to honor him for his special award as “Oldest Living Kansas Veteran”.   A special thank you to all the veterans who attended.   We were grateful to have the time to honor you for your service.

MORE WAYS TO HELP

FCCI has a booth space in the new Iron Wheel Flea Market as a fund raiser.  If you have antiques or collectibles that you would like to donate please drop them by the community center during normal business hours or call to make arrangements for pickup.  This is a great way to support your favorite non-profit and to help with the community.  All proceeds go 100% directly to programs that benefit the community

PARK

You may have noticed the new addition to the memorial garden.    The old Franklin School Bell was purchased by an anonymous donor. The family wanted to be certain the bell remained in the community for all to enjoy.   It will be installed in a structure in the future.  Please take a moment to remember all those who have gone before us and attended Franklin schools.

CONTRIBUTORS

Thanks to those who continue to help us in our quest of saving historical items and documents relating to Franklin.  We are dedicated to preserving the history of the community and appreciate support toward these projects.  Thanks to Elizabeth Strukel and Harry Strukel for the beautiful new portable podium.  It is a beautiful piece and is a wonderful addition to the community center.

<>Thank to the following for their donations to the community:  the Joe Jackson family, Anne Emerson, Community Director for Senator Sam Brownback, Andrew Rezin and Orlanda Bazin.

An endowment fund has been established by Frances Slansek Ales in memory of her aunt and uncle Rose and Jack Podpechan and family.  Thank you to Frances for assuring there will be a bright future for Franklin.  Her aunt and uncle will be remembered for generations.

<>We are in need of a vacuum sweeper for the community center. If anyone happens to have an extra one please drop it by the center.    We also are in need of general lawn and garden equipment such as a wheelbarrow, hand truck ,etc.    We need general maintenance tools such as hammers, screw drivers, etc.   If you have any of these items that you no longer need and they are just taking up space in your garage please consider donating them to the community for use at the park, community center and welcome sign.    If we receive more than one similar item we will put the additional items in the Bargain Bazaar.

FCCI Board of Directors

At our annual meeting in January three seats on the board will be up for election.   Please consider doing your civic duty and stepping forward for these very important seats.  The board meets once a month and several committees handle day to day operations of the facilities.   If you are interested in serving as a board member or on one of the committees please call the center.  All meetings are open to the public and we invite and encourage everyone to attend.   Bring your ideas for future plans for the community.  What would you like to see available in the community in the next 3, 5, 7 years?  What programs would you like to see in the community?  Can you help with those programs?  Do not sit back and wait for someone else to do it. If you have an idea please come to a meeting.  Everyone is welcome!!

Heritage Committee:  Needs “Collections Manager” for historical items .  If you would also be interested in serving on the Heritage Committee please call Phyllis 249-9333.
