COMMUNITY CENTER  NEW EMPLOYEES & NEW OFFICE HOURS (effective October 1)

Monday-Wednesday 10 am-8pm                    Thursday-Saturday 10 am-3pm

We’d like to welcome John Alex, Carolyn Hartman and Mildred Hunter. John is a Franklin resident and will be taking care of the lawn and gardens.  Carolyn lives in Pittsburg and will be working in the office.  Mildred is an Englevale resident and will also be working in the office.  Either of these ladies will be available to give you a tour of the center, provide you with a rental application and allow you access to the scrapbooks and memory books which contain photos and stories about Franklin.  You will also be able to purchase any of the Franklin or Centennial collectibles during those hours.  If you have not seen the new community center or have friends or relatives from out of town please feel free to stop in, show them our new center and look at the photo displays.  Stop in and welcome our new employees.  Watch the newsletter for future community programs to be held during the week.  Thanks to the Department of Labor for this training program which provides non-profits with employees at no cost to us.

PARK

Reservations:  While there is no charge for using the park, reservations for the shelter are necessary in order to ensure your family has full access to the shelter. Every week-end in September was reserved.  Due to the rains and other problems the bathrooms are not usuable. However we have placed a porta-potty at the park for the convenience of park users.   Please do not abuse this privilege.  Volunteers work very hard to maintain the park and the entire area.   For reservations call the office 347-4220.

CONTRIBUTORS

Thanks to Gene & Lisa Arnold who donated a wonderful piece of history to the community and thanks to Marion Kobak for locating it.   The item received is a ledger from the Union Co-op Store from the early teens and ‘20s.    We are dedicated to preserving the history of the community and appreciate support toward these projects.  Thanks to Evangeline Hager for a donation toward current maintenance and upkeep made in memory of Frank Kobak.

While the community center debt has been retired there are still many ongoing day to day expenses and we want to continue the programs that benefit everyone.   Insurance, maintenance, utilities, lawn care, park maintenance, historical preservation, kitchen supplies, hall supplies, etc. are just a few of the ongoing expenses that we continue to incur.  In many instances volunteers continue to use their own equipment, gas, office supplies, etc. to keep the community activities going.  We would like to reach a point where the community is self sufficient and we only need to depend on volunteers for labor.

 “VANDALISM”

We do not have extra funds to pay for vandalism and other problems that are caused by only a few people.  Please keep your eyes and ears open for vandalism or mischief at the park or any of the FCCI properties and report it to one of the board members or the Sheriff’s department.   The latest round of vandalism involves someone removing the light bulbs from the shelter at the park and smashing them throughout the shelter.  This presents a safety issue for children coming to the park to play.  Please help us put a stop to this childish vandalism.  Keep your eyes and ears open.   This is “your” park.   Help us keep it safe and clean.

“CENTENNIAL”  (YEARLY REUNION)

Many have asked if we will be doing it again next year.  Of course “centennial” implies every 100 years but due to the interest we are working on an idea to have some sort of yearly “reunion”.   It will likely be a catered dinner (reservations in advance required) and just the day spent visiting with old friends.  The event will be at the community center.  Watch future editions of the newsletter as well as notices in the newspaper for a date.   It will be a great chance for everyone to know that on a certain date each year we will be gathering to renew old friendships.

$100 for 100 years

Help us remember the centennial in a special way.  Donate $100 to the endowment fund in your family name.   Purchase a $100 paver to be placed in the park.  Donate $100 for current maintenance, repairs & upkeep.

Donate $100 for future projects.
