The folks of Franklin, Kan., know the color of Paul Newman's money.
The 78-year-old actor who won a best-actor Oscar for 1987's The Color of
Money, sent a personal check to the town ravaged by a tornado this spring
along with words of encouragement.
"We decided that it would be best not to give the exact figure, resident
Phyllis Bitner said recently. A tornado hit Franklin, a town of about 500
residents, on May 4, destroying about a third of the homes and leveling the
community center and post office. Residents have vowed to rebuild.
