State Senator Jim Barone and his wife
Donita were in attendance for the Veterans Day luncheon and program.
The Senator
spoke of his ties to Franklin
and
read an essay composed by his grandson that spoke of his
thoughts
on freedom. Austin Barone, age 12, son of Kevin Barone,
attends school at Bishop Seabury in Lawrence, Kansas. His
thoughts on freedom were written at the age of 11.
Freedom
To me freedom means equality among all, being able to do what you want
but if against the law facing those consequences if you are
caught. Freedom may be freedom of speech or just being free. Many
people take freedom for granted but to me freedom must be equal and the
same consequence for all. We only have these freedoms because
thousands of people risk their lives for us every single day of the
year leaving everything to go fight for their country. Many
people think that just because they don't have one thing they suffer
but the people who really suffer are the people who aren't free.
I think every man, woman and child should be free no matter what.
